Long-Distance Medical Transport from New Jersey
Safe, door-to-door medical transport for trips too far to drive and too hard to fly — by wheelchair-accessible van or non-emergency stretcher, with a trained crew, oxygen, and a coordinated return. From a Florida snowbird move to an out-of-state specialty hospital, we get your loved one there comfortably.

Some journeys are too long to drive and too difficult to fly — a frail parent moving to Florida for the winter, a patient traveling to an out-of-state hospital for specialized care, or a loved one who needs to get home after falling ill far away. Airlines aren't built for a patient who uses a wheelchair, depends on oxygen, or must travel lying flat, and a family car can't provide the care or the equipment. That is exactly what long-distance medical transport is for.
Delta Medical Transportation provides door-to-door long-distance and out-of-state transport by wheelchair-accessible van and non-emergency stretcher. As a licensed Basic Life Support (BLS) provider, we can handle longer, stretcher-level trips that wheelchair-van-only companies turn down — and our crew stays with the patient the entire way.
When People Use Long-Distance Medical Transport
Snowbirds heading to Florida & the Southeast
Seasonal residents traveling south for the winter (and back in spring) who can't manage a flight or a long drive — we take them door to door, with their wheelchair or on a stretcher, oxygen and all.
Relocating to be near family
Moving to another state to live with or near family, or into an assisted-living or skilled-nursing community out of state — a calm, accessible move for a patient who can't travel any other way.
Out-of-state specialty hospitals
Trips to destination hospitals in New York, Philadelphia, Boston, or beyond for specialized surgery, cancer care, or a second opinion — and back home afterward.
Returning home after care
A patient who fell ill or was hospitalized away from home and needs to get back to New Jersey — or a New Jersey patient returning from out-of-state treatment.
Facility-to-facility transfers
Long-distance transfers between hospitals, rehabilitation centers, and skilled-nursing facilities across state lines, coordinated with both ends.
What a Long-Distance Trip Includes
A long trip is more than a long drive. We plan it around the patient's comfort and safety from door to door:
- Door-to-door pickup and delivery — we help the patient from inside their home and into the destination, not just curb to curb
- Wheelchair-accessible van or non-emergency stretcher, matched to the patient's needs
- Oxygen continuity for patients who need supplemental oxygen en route
- Planned comfort and restroom stops on a sensible schedule
- A trained crew who stays with the patient the entire way
- Route, timing, and safe driver-hour planning for very long trips
- A coordinated return trip when it's a round trip
This is scheduled, non-emergency transport for medically stable patients — not emergency or critical-care transport. If a patient is in a medical emergency, call 911.

Frequently Asked Questions
How far will you transport a patient?
Anywhere. We provide long-distance medical transport from New Jersey throughout the Northeast and down the East Coast — and cross-country by arrangement. Common trips are NJ to Florida, the Carolinas, New England, and the mid-Atlantic, but if you tell us the origin and destination, we can do it.
Wheelchair van or stretcher for a long trip?
Both are available. Patients who can sit comfortably travel in a wheelchair-accessible van; patients who must lie flat travel by non-emergency stretcher. As a licensed Basic Life Support (BLS) provider we can staff stretcher-level, longer-haul trips that wheelchair-van-only companies can't. We'll help you choose the right level when you call.
How much does a long-distance trip cost?
There's no flat rate — a long-distance trip is priced by the total distance, the vehicle and level of care, oxygen and equipment needs, and the return arrangement. We give you one clear, all-in quote up front with no surprise add-ons. Call (973) 389-3110 with the origin and destination for a free quote.
Do you stay with the patient and handle oxygen on a long trip?
Yes. Our crew stays with the patient the entire way, plans comfort and restroom stops, maintains oxygen continuity, and keeps the patient secure and comfortable. For very long trips we plan the route, timing, and safe driver hours in advance so the journey is smooth and unhurried.
Can a family member ride along?
Yes — a family member or caregiver is welcome to travel with the patient at no extra charge, which many families prefer on a long trip. Let us know when you book so we plan for the seating.
Will insurance or Medicaid pay for a long-distance trip?
Most long-distance and out-of-state trips are private pay. NJ Medicaid (NJ FamilyCare) covers medically necessary in-state transport through its broker and generally requires prior authorization; it does not cover a snowbird move to Florida. Some Medicare Advantage plans have limited transport benefits. Call us and we'll help you understand the options for your specific trip.
