Woodland Park was West Paterson until January 1, 2009, and plenty of medical records, insurance files and pharmacy accounts still carry the old name — worth knowing when a scheduler insists there is no patient at your address. The borough covers just over three square miles, and it is more vertical than that sounds: the land climbs off Route 46, which runs along the southern boundary for well under a mile, up onto the First Watchung ridge and Garret Mountain Reservation. Interstate 80 only clips the northwestern corner, about a mile of it. Roughly 13,000 people live here and just under 23 percent of them are 65 or older. There is no hospital and no emergency room inside the borough. Delta dispatches from Totowa, which borders Woodland Park, so a pickup here is a short run rather than a cross-county one — but there is no Delta depot in the borough.

Most of the borough's outpatient medicine sits at one address. 1225 McBride Avenue holds Woodland Park Dialysis Center, an in-center hemodialysis unit whose first chairs go on at 6 a.m., running until 6 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday and until 4 p.m. Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. The same building gained Englewood Hospital Imaging and Therapeutics at Woodland Park on December 5, 2025 — 3T wide-bore MRI, low-dose CT, 3D mammography, and an infusion and injection suite covering oncology, cardiology and neurology. The only local bus through the borough is NJ Transit's 704, Paterson Riverside to Willowbrook Mall — and it is really two patterns rather than one line: some trips run McBride Avenue as the 704M, others swing over Browertown Road as the 704B, so the stop nearest the dialysis door is not served by every bus. That matters more than it sounds, because Access Link, NJ Transit's ADA paratransit, is pinned to the fixed-route network: you have to be certified, live within three-quarters of a mile of a bus route, book in advance, and travel only where and when that route runs. A 6 a.m. chair time and a Saturday shift sit at the hard edge of that window. For a hospital, residents leave the borough entirely — St. Joseph's University Medical Center at 703 Main Street in Paterson, the bordering city, a Level II trauma center; St. Joseph's Wayne Medical Center on Hamburg Turnpike in Wayne; and St. Mary's General Hospital at 350 Boulevard in Passaic.
