Union Boulevard is signed as Route 62 for the 0.47 mile between US 46 and interchange 55A on I-80 — a state highway that exists entirely inside Totowa — and at its northern end it continues as County Route 646 toward Paterson, which is the direction most Totowa hospital trips go. St. Joseph's University Medical Center, 651 beds with a state-designated Level II trauma center and the state's first-ever designated children's hospital, sits a little over two miles east at 703 Main Street in Paterson. St. Joseph's Wayne Medical Center is about three miles north at 224 Hamburg Turnpike, a 229-bed hospital with a full-service emergency department, an acute rehabilitation unit and an outpatient infusion center.

There is no dialysis center inside Totowa — Medicare's facility file lists ten in Passaic County and none in the borough. The closest is barely a mile south, just over the line: Innovative Renal Care Woodland Park, a 19-station unit at 1225 McBride Avenue. The other we run to regularly is DaVita St. Joseph's Wayne Dialysis, twenty stations at 57 Willowbrook Boulevard, out where Route 23, US 46 and I-80 meet. Neither runs a late shift, and the nearest chairs that do are over on Getty Avenue in Paterson — a longer ride.
