Every treatment slot is a daytime slot, so the borough's dialysis traffic stacks into the morning and midday runs, and a rider who finishes at an awkward hour still needs a van already waiting. We set the return trip before the first ride rather than after, and hold the same driver and pickup time for three-day-a-week schedules. Windmere, the 57-bed nonprofit skilled nursing facility the Holland Christian Home Association runs at 151 Graham Avenue, is the borough's other steady source of recurring outpatient trips.

For anything the borough cannot handle, residents cross a municipal line. Wayne borders North Haledon directly, and St. Joseph's Wayne Medical Center sits at 224 Hamburg Turnpike there; higher-acuity and specialty care routes to St. Joseph's University Medical Center at 703 Main Street in Paterson, the Level II trauma center. Atlantic Health System's Chilton Medical Center, at 97 West Parkway in Pompton Plains, has an emergency department and is the other regular destination. Public transit does not fill the gap, because the borough has no station of its own: the nearest rail is Hawthorne station on NJ Transit's Main Line, and it is two low-level platforms joined by a grade crossing, not compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act. A rider who uses a wheelchair cannot simply take the train to an appointment from here.
