Most Brick wheelchair-van work never leaves the township. Ocean University Medical Center, part of Hackensack Meridian Health, sits at 425 Jack Martin Boulevard with emergency medicine, cancer care, heart and vascular services, orthopedics, surgery, wound healing and rehabilitation all on one campus. Two skilled-nursing buildings elsewhere in the township take the short-term rehab cases: Willow Springs Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center on Burnt Tavern Road and Complete Care at Shorrock Gardens on Old Toms River Road. A discharge from Ocean back to either one is a short trip, but it still needs a ramp, a four-point tie-down and a driver who will not leave someone parked in a lobby. Delta runs the whole loop in one vehicle, with the same crew.

Brick has two Fresenius Kidney Care units and between them they cover a lot of clock. Fresenius Kidney Care Brick Boulevard, at 150 Brick Blvd, opens at 6 a.m. Monday through Saturday and handles in-center hemodialysis alongside home peritoneal dialysis. Fresenius Kidney Care Brick, at 1640 Route 88, starts its first shift at 5 a.m., also six days a week. That 5 a.m. chair is exactly what Ocean County's Reserve-A-Ride cannot cover: its reservation line takes calls from 8:15 a.m. to 4:15 p.m., rides are booked as much as four weeks ahead, trips go primarily to destinations within Ocean County, and the driver may arrive anywhere from one to one and a half hours around the scheduled appointment time. Geography splits Brick's transport problem in two. The mainland township is stitched together by three Garden State Parkway interchanges — 89, 90 and 91 — plus Routes 70, 88 and 35, and by Mantoloking Road, County Route 528, which runs a short distance south of the Metedeconk River. Then CR 528 leaves the mainland: it crosses Barnegat Bay on the Mantoloking Bridge, a drawbridge, and everything past it is peninsula. Brick's Ocean Beaches I, II and III sit out there on the Barnegat Peninsula, the barrier strip between the bay and the Atlantic, so for those residents every mainland appointment means crossing water on a bridge that opens for boat traffic. Trips out of the township add their own problem: the Ocean Care Center satellite emergency department at 1517 Richmond Avenue in Point Pleasant, Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus on River Avenue in Lakewood, the Leonard G. "Bud" Lomell VA Clinic on Hooper Avenue in Toms River, and Jersey Shore University Medical Center on Route 33 in Neptune — a Level I adult and pediatric trauma center over the Monmouth County line, where a paratransit service built around Ocean County destinations is not designed to go.
