DaVita Freehold Dialysis, despite the name, sits at 300 Craig Road in Manalapan, so a family booking a ride to "the Freehold dialysis center" can easily mean a building in a different township. Meanwhile the county's own SCAT paratransit is headquartered right here at 250 Center Street, and it runs Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. A Saturday chair time or a four o'clock hospital discharge falls outside that window entirely. Freehold has one hospital of its own, and for anything past it residents leave town. The Route 33 freeway bypasses the borough, carrying traffic through Freehold Township instead, while Route 33 Business, the only business route of a state highway in New Jersey, is the old alignment that still threads through the borough itself. Follow Route 33 east and it ends at Route 71 in Neptune, where Jersey Shore University Medical Center at 1945 Route 33 is Hackensack Meridian's Level I adult and Level I pediatric trauma center. Monmouth County has only five acute-care hospitals in all: CentraState, Jersey Shore, Riverview in Red Bank, Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch and Bayshore in Holmdel.
