Lambertville is Hunterdon County's only city — 4,139 people on 1.08 square miles of Delaware riverbank — and there is no hospital at any address in it. Medicare's hospital file lists exactly one acute-care hospital in the entire county: Hunterdon Medical Center at 2100 Wescott Drive in Flemington, reached northeast on Route 179, which is Bridge Street through downtown, out to U.S. 202 at Ringoes and then north. Much of Lambertville's care runs the other way, into Mercer County. County Route 518 leaves town as Brunswick Avenue and crosses Route 31 in Hopewell Township about seven miles on, with the Capital Health Medical Center – Hopewell campus sitting south of that crossing off Route 31 at a Pennington address. Route 29 follows the river south into Trenton and Capital Health Regional Medical Center. Our wheelchair vans run all three, every day of the year.

Hunterdon County's LINK bus does reach Lambertville: Route 14 runs Stockton Borough to Lambertville and Lambertville to Flemington, Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., with designated stops rather than door-to-door pickup. That fixed route is also why the county's curb-to-curb Demand Response service is not the fallback here — LINK offers Demand Response to passengers who live in Hunterdon municipalities not served by Routes 14, 15, 16, 18, 19 and 23, and Lambertville is served by Route 14. For an appointment outside the county, which is where both Capital Health campuses are, the county's own mechanism is its Volunteer Driver Program: Hunterdon residents only, weekdays only, for specialized appointments not otherwise available in Hunterdon County, with the appointment itself booked between 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., the ride requested at least two weeks ahead, and service subject to a volunteer being available. Neither runs Saturday or Sunday. Delta dispatches around the clock, seven days a week.

Dialysis is the standing appointment that defines the week, and Medicare lists exactly one certified dialysis facility in all of Hunterdon County: the sixteen-station Fresenius Kidney Care unit at 2 Kings Court in Flemington, which runs no late shift. It is also the only address LINK's dialysis service carries riders to, Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. There is no Medicare-certified nursing home anywhere in Lambertville either — the closest of the county's four is Hunterdon Care Center, 185 beds at 1 Leisure Court in Flemington — so rehab after surgery means a bed out of town and a ride back from it. Describe your entrance when you book. A ramp or lift needs firm, reasonably level ground, and in a city where 680 buildings sit inside a 198-acre National Register historic district listed in 1983, a flush modern approach is not a given.
