Millburn Township has no hospital inside its borders, and that single fact shapes every medical trip a wheelchair user makes here. Overlook Medical Center, the Atlantic Health hospital at 99 Beauvoir Avenue, sits in Summit on the far side of the southwestern township line that Routes 24 and 124 run along. Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center — the RWJBarnabas hospital longtime residents still call Saint Barnabas — is north in Livingston at 94 Old Short Hills Road. When the referral is for inpatient rehabilitation, it is usually Kessler Institute's 152-bed West Orange campus, north of the township. Our ramp vans run to all three from Totowa.

Millburn runs a free bus for residents 62 and over, and it is genuinely useful — but its limits are exactly why people call us. It runs four days a week, Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, finishing at 2:30 p.m. and at noon on Thursdays. It stays inside the township apart from a few standing shopping runs. Riders must be able to board and leave the bus without assistance, and reservations are taken only between 7:00 and 8:15 a.m. the day before. None of that reaches an early appointment in Summit or Livingston, which is where the appointments are. The trains do not fill the gap either: Short Hills station's two low-level side platforms are not wheelchair accessible, and Millburn station's two platforms are low-level as well.
