Confidentiality and Privacy in Mental Health Transport

To set up recurring mental health transport, contact your Medicaid MCO's transportation coordinator and explain that you have a recurring appointment schedule; provide the appointment days, times, and location as well as your treating provider's contact information for verification; ask whether a standing order can be set up so you do not need to call for each individual trip; and request the same driver when possible for consistency.
When You Need a Ride but Medicaid Does Not Cover the Trip
There are situations where Medicaid NEMT may not cover a mental health trip — for example, if your provider is out of network, if the appointment is for a peer support or wellness program rather than clinical treatment, or if you are on a commercial insurance plan without an NEMT benefit.
